how to keep a build "forever" #2660

I am looking for a way to keep specific "released" builds forever. What is the best way to handle this?
A couple of things I can think of, a) recommended builds, b) promotion. is there anyway to tell QB not clean up recommended builds? this way, I don't have to set another promotion step.
