Node Measurement Gadget Title #3532

jmash ·
Greetings,

I am currently setting up node measurement gadgets for several of the nodes in my grid, and I'm curious if there's a way to have the hostname of the node for which the data is being displayed specified in the title of the gadget using the script feature? If I specify the title as ${node.getHostName()}, it gives me the name of the QuickBuild server, which isn't quite what I'm after.

Let me know if that doesn't make any sense, and I'll try to clarify.
Thanks,
-J. Mash

Do you mean you want to use the node name selected from the Node drop down choice in gadget title? If yes, this is not supported yet.

I don't see much convenience by using a script instead of input the name directly in this case. So would you please explain more why not just input the node name here?

That is what I was looking to do, yeah.

This inquiry is the result of one part curiosity and one part laziness on my part, because I generally despise defining data in multiple locations, especially when I know that data is going to be changing in the near future. In this case, there are a couple hosts that I know will be changing names soon, and I am still going to want to monitor them regardless of what they are named. This isn't something that I feel needs to result in an improvement request, however, as I was just curious if there was a better way to handle this scenario, and what it might be if so.

You're correct though, there's certainly not a ton of convenience to be had here. Doubly so if the gadget doesn't really deal with renaming the host, because I'd have to go fix that up anyway. That said, this gadget is extremely node-centric, and a nice bit of polish for future versions might be to allow the gadget title to be optional and default it to the hostname in this scenario (or whatever achieves a similar result).

In any case, thanks for the answer, you can consider my curiosity satisfied. <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Hi J. Mash,

Thank you very much for the explanation. And, yes, gadget title defaults to the node address/hostname is a good option.
I have filed this issue below:
